What the regulator has been told

How often do robotaxis file a crash report with the federal regulator?

Waymo filed 12 crash reports with the regulator in July 2026, more than Tesla and Zoox combined (1). A report is required whenever the automated system was engaged, whoever was at fault, so this counts exposure as much as it counts error - and Waymo has by far the most vehicles on the road.

A report is required whenever an automated driving system was engaged within 30 seconds of a crash, whatever the cause, so a rising count tracks miles driven as much as it tracks anything going wrong. Read it next to the fleet numbers rather than on its own.
