The Salesforce story

Salesforce provides leading subscription software for managing customer relationships, and its next transition depends on whether Agentforce and Data 360 can accelerate growth beyond acquisitions.

The story in brief

  • AI adoption expands. In the quarter to July 2026, Agentforce and Data 360 annual recurring revenue reached nearly $3.9 billion, up over 210% year-over-year.
  • Acquisitions shape growth. Salesforce raised fiscal 2027 revenue guidance to $46.1 billion to $46.4 billion, including slightly above 3 points of contribution from Informatica.
  • Cash meets larger obligations. Salesforce generated $15.2 billion in free cash flow over the last twelve months, while debt stood at $39.3 billion against $11.4 billion in cash and short-term investments.

What drives the business

  • Salesforce's subscription business spans sales, service, marketing and commerce, with growth built around renewals and broader adoption of its products by existing customers.
  • Its Agentforce strategy embeds autonomous AI agents into those applications, using Data 360 for customer context, Slack as a conversational interface, and Informatica to connect and govern enterprise data.
  • Named Agentforce customers include Dell, FedEx, Pandora, PepsiCo and Williams-Sonoma, illustrating adoption across different industries.
  • Subscription and support revenue reached $10.8 billion in the quarter to July 2026, up 12% year-over-year and including $440 million from Informatica, out of total revenue of $11.3 billion.
  • Slack recorded its fastest quarterly growth in net new annual order value since acquisition in the quarter to July 2026, while Slackbot users grew over 150% from the preceding quarter.

What the price assumes

At $227.27, the reverse DCF implies free cash flow after stock pay grows 4.4% annually for ten years, using a 10.2% discount rate.

Salesforce delivered 36.4% annual growth on that measure over the last 10 years, while the TenQ check sets a 20.2% bar by slowing that record halfway toward 4%.

The implied growth rate is below that bar, but the measure differs from reported free cash flow because it deducts stock-based pay, which totaled $3.7 billion over the last twelve months.

What could change the story

  • Revenue growth of 11.2% over the last twelve months exceeded Salesforce's 9.8% annual pace over the last three years but failed both TenQ sector growth checks.
  • Agentforce annual recurring revenue exceeded $1.5 billion in the quarter to July 2026, but its definition expanded to include Slackbot and Headless 360, complicating comparisons of product growth.
  • Debt relative to equity rose to 1.02 from 0.18 five years earlier, and shareholder distributions represented 241.6% of free cash flow, failing TenQ's funding check.
  • Investment gains contributed $2.43 to GAAP diluted earnings per share of $4.29 in the quarter to July 2026, so the reported earnings increase was not solely an operating result.
  • The fiscal 2027 outlook incorporates Contentful and Fin except in contracted revenue growth guidance and is conditional on their closing, making acquisition timing and integration important to the outlook.

What to watch next

  • For the quarter to October 2026, Salesforce guided to revenue of $11.42 billion to $11.5 billion and approximately 14% growth in current remaining performance obligations, the near-term portion of contracted revenue not yet recognized.
  • That contracted revenue measure stood at $33.5 billion in July 2026, and its growth alongside Agentforce adoption will help test management's expectation of organic revenue reacceleration in the second half of fiscal 2027.
  • Fiscal 2027 guidance pairs a 20.1% GAAP operating margin with approximately 4% to 5% growth in operating cash flow and free cash flow, making cash conversion and stock-based pay important follow-through measures.
  • Salesforce expects final settlement of its $25 billion accelerated share repurchase program in October 2026, with the resulting share count and balance sheet showing the program's final effects.
