The Target story
What drives Target, what its price assumes and what could change the story, written from its own filings.
- Traffic leads the recovery. In the quarter to August 2026, comparable sales rose 3.8 percent, driven by a 3.6 percent increase in traffic rather than a large increase in spending per visit.
- Refunds magnify earnings. Tariff refunds contributed $1.65 to earnings per share of $4.11 in the quarter to August 2026, although earnings per share still increased 20 percent excluding refunds.
- Stores anchor digital growth. Stores fulfilled 97.6% of merchandise sales in the quarter to August 2026, making store investment central to both in-person shopping and digital orders.
